What does term "Food Grade" really mean.

Had a question form someone during the Lunar New Year.
A: What is Food grade grease, metals, plastics etc..
Me: It means, that after using it, or consuming small amounts of the substance, you don't die so fast
only till much much later, so you cannot blame the company who manufactures it.
