Gula Malacca
Hey CBS, something to ponder about, if coconut is allowable carbs, think about this,
natural sugar like Gula Malacca? I saw an article on this where a diabetic took Gula Malacca
and it hardly spiked his blood sugar, as compared to white refined sugar. A doctor SGH did comment
on the issue. Let me find it and post it here for all.

Chendol is bad because there's red bean, that green jelly thing (starch)...
On the other hand, I think Bo Bo Cha Cha is okay - I eat it without any sugar - just coconut milk, yam and sweet potato...hahah

I saw Gula Melaka - or palm sugar - being used in some of the paleo recipes before...
Some paleo guys also take honey and maple syrup...

But if you use Gula Melaka, won't your achar turn brown in colour? hahah
Maybe can try with some honey - I know that Thai honey is more watery and has less honey taste...

Good discussion..
Currently the only dessert I'm having, not on regular basis is,
Homemade bo bo cha cha: Just Heated up Ayam brand can Coconut cream with water to dilute. Add chopped Sweet Potato(Starchy, but read that it's low GI and full of benefitial nutrients)
Now can try variation with coconut Milk, ice, Gula Melaka and sweet potato.
Any idea where to get the purple flesh variety of the sweet potato?

NTUC has them, the skin would be some what reddish in color. Donno man, I still haven't gotten past my
paraboloidal to take Gula Malacca, though I have tons of them stashed in my kitchen, for all those Peranakan dishes.
Re: Gula Malacca
As far as I know, they're not the same thing lah.
Gula Melaka is the sap of the flower bud of a coconut tree, whereas coconut is the flesh of the fruit.
Although relatively carby compared with a pics of meat, it has many great qualities like anti-fungal, anti-viral properties, full of MCT's, no O6...etc.
Palm sugar has the same properties as regular sugar...

Re: Gula Malacca
I think the one you posted is the Korean sweet potato...hahah
Yes, the Japanese version has purple skin but yellow/orange flesh inside...
I love the Japanese version, which I eat with the skin after I steam them
It's a once-in-two-week indulgence and only limit myself to 1
My two furkids love it too...

Didn't know got korean sweet potato, the purple did stain my fingers slightly... I think sweet potato and yam are alright indulgence since they are low on the GI index. Add coconut cream and pandang leave, still can have our bobo chacha.
